Our Navajo Rugs, such as this beautiful 1970s Phoenix Heard Museum Navajo Mat, are authentic Navajo handwoven by the Navajo People in New Mexico. Each weaving was made using ancestral weaving and dyeing techniques. Depending on its size, a Navajo Rug can take several years in the making. From herding the sheep with the best quality wool, shearing, carding, preparing the fibres, collecting local plants and minerals to mix the dyes, dyeing the fibres to the desired tones, composing the design, to spending hundreds of hours weaving it all into life in the New Mexico desert.
