Important Advice


• Essential oils should always be diluted in a base oil such as hazelnut or almond which are both high in vitamin E, before applying to the skin.
• NEVER take the oils internally unless recommended by a qualified medical practitioner.

BASIL (stimulating):
Basil is antiseptic and tones and clears the skin, increasing its resilience and sleekness. It can be used as a skin cleanser or toner in facial care or added to oils and creams and to the bath to stimulate the metabolism of greasy, tired, limp, and colourless skin.

BENZOIN (emotionally cleansing):
Traditionally used to drive away evil spirits, its also known as Friars Balsam. For the skin, cuts, chapped skin, inflamed and irritated conditions are well healed by this oil. Good for stress, It warms and tones the heart and circulation. This essence creates a kind of euphoria. Blends well with sandalwood, rose, Jasmine, Frankincense, myrrh cypress juniper, lemon and coriander.

BERGAMOT (uplifting):
Obtained from the rind of citrus fruit, it has a light, warm fragrance. Blends well with other oils. Beneficial for the skin, it also helps in cases of dandruff, seborrhea, acne, herpes, (lip blisters and genital herpes), shingles, eczema, excessive perspiration (armpits), and anorexia.

CAJEPUT (stimulating):
Held in high regard in the East, it is used for colds, headaches, throat infections and aching muscles. It produces an immediate sensation of warmth when massaged (with base oil) on the body and has a mild fruity aroma.

CAMPHOR (insect repellent):
This is a strong oil and should be used with care. Its especially useful for bronchial conditions, chills and coughs. The Ancients used it to ward off infectious disease, it is also good for arthritis and rheumatism.

CARDAMON (stimulant):
From Guatemala it is recommended for burning and has a lovely spicy scent. Helps coughs, and nausea and is good for stomach and digestion.

CARROT SEED (skin):
Stimulates cell renewal and also stimulates the sweat and sebaceous glands, which is of particular benefit to mature, dry skin and dry hair. It is therefore an ideal oil for wrinkle creams and facial oils.

CEDARWOOD (soothing):
Favoured by the Egyptians for thousands of years, this oil can be inhaled or burned to relax and quieten the nerves. Useful for colds, coughs and oily skin. Helps to remove excess water.

CHAMOMILE (relaxing):
Distilled from the medicinal herb throughout Europe, it has been used for thousands of years. It has anti-inflammatory properties and so is valuable for skin irritation or inflammation, sprains and stomach cramps. For insomnia it's especially useful for children because of its low toxicity. CINNAMON LEAF (stimulating):
Distilled from the bark and leaves of bushes in India and Ceylon, this powerlul oil must be well diluted and used with care. Its warm spicy aroma blends well with citrus oils for burning. Traditionally used for digestive problems, cinnamon also tones the circulation and eases fatigue.

CITRONELLA (insect repellant):
A fresh smelling tropical plant, stimulating and invigorating. Good for PMT and rheumatic pains. Blends well with geranium, lemon, orange, cedarwood and pine.

CLARY SAGE (soothing):
A bitter- sweet oil obtained from France with a warm nutty aroma distilled from the whole plant. it's relaxing, sedative effect relieves stress and insomnia. Particularly useful during depression because it is euphoric, good for convalescence and PMT.

CLOVE (calming):
From Madagascar it Is antiseptic and pain relieving. Its use in natural cosmetics extends to warts, calluses, Infected wounds and insect stings. One example of its use is In aftershave lotions, since its woody scent harmonises well and disinfects razor nicks.

CORIANDER (stimulating):
Used by the ancient Chinese and the Egyptians. Excellent for muscular aches and pains, poor circulation, boosts the immune system against colds and flu. For incense it blends well with clary sage, bergamot, jasmine, neroli, petitgrain, cypress, pine and ginger. It's also said to be an aphrodisiac.

CYPRESS
(astringent):
A refreshing and uplifting oil ideal in the bath or as a foot bath it is widely used in men's deodorants and is very good for relieving stress and increasing memory recall. It is used by the Tibetans as a purification incense it blends well with cedarwood, pine, lavender, clary sage, lemon, cardamom, chamomile, juniper, benzoin, bergamot, orange, marjoram and sandalwood.

DAVANA (stimulant):
Also known as armoise, wormwood, mugwort and absinthium. Originally a component of the drink Absinthe, it has a warm spicy scent and blends well with jasmine, orange and lavender.

A valuable oil for skin care, it is astringent, deodorising and is said to stimulate breast growth when mixed with ylang-ylang in a body oil and used regularly. LAVENDER
(healing, balancing, calming):

('angels water'):
is a name given to it during the 18th century because of its healing properties, its relatively mild hence it is a suitable oil to use for children's coughs and chest complaints. It is astringent, antiseptic, and antibacterial, it may be used for general skin care and acne. A fresh and slightly herbal fragrance blends well with bergamot, lavender, rosemary, clary sage, bay, ginger, clove and other spice oils.
